Northumberland National Park
The northernmost English park, designated in 1956 and running up to the Scottish border across the Cheviot Hills, Kielder Forest and a long stretch of Hadrian's Wall. It is the most sparsely populated and least visited of the British parks, which is the whole point of walking here. The designated Dark Sky Reserve is the largest area of protected dark sky in the UK, and Kielder Observatory runs the public programme for it.
