Eryri (Snowdonia)
The first national park in Wales, designated in 1951 and covering 2,130 square kilometres from the coast to the summit of Snowdon at 1,085 metres, the highest ground in the country. Five distinct walking routes reach that summit, and the Snowdon Mountain Railway reaches it without walking. The park authority maintains 2,381 kilometres of public rights of way with 13 full-time wardens, and the slate workings at Penrhyn, Dinorwic and Blaenau Ffestiniog are part of the landscape rather than a blemish on it.
