Exmoor

693 square kilometres straddling the Devon and Somerset border, designated in 1954, with roughly 267 square kilometres of it moorland and heath and Dunkery Beacon the high point at 519 metres. The Bristol Channel coast here is cliff rather than beach, reaching 244 metres at Culbone Hill in Devonian sandstones and slates, among the highest coastal ground in England. Around 2,800 red deer live in the park, and the rutting is observable at traditional autumn gathering sites. A note on the map pin: open map data offered a close but not exact match for this place, so the marker may sit slightly off. If it looks wrong, please flag this entry so it can be checked.
