The lakes of the Leipziger Neuseenland

Map of 9 locations in Leipzig region, Saxony, Germany

Every one of these waters was an open-cast lignite pit first. The German register of the Leipziger Neuseenland lists each basin with its final surface area and the year flooding ended, and OpenStreetMap still tags the beds was:resource=lignite under the sand beaches and dive buoys. The dates run from 1954, when Witznitz was impounded as a reservoir while mining went on around it, to 2015 at Zwenkau, and the same register schedules pits that will not hold water until 2060.
