Peak District
The first of the English parks, designated in 1951 in what was then mostly poor-quality agricultural upland, and still a working landscape with around 38,000 permanent residents in settlements including Bakewell, Castleton and Tideswell. Despite the name, the relief is gritstone edges and limestone crags rather than peaks, and the park sits across five counties within reach of most of the country. The boundary is signed on roads by carved millstones, which is useful because the line itself follows no single obvious feature. A note on the map pin: open map data offered a close but not exact match for this place, so the marker may sit slightly off. If it looks wrong, please flag this entry so it can be checked.
