Kaffee Alt Wien

Established on 14 October 1922, and taken over in 1936 by Leopold Hawelka and his wife Josefine on the day after their wedding; they left in 1939 for Dorotheergasse, where they opened Café Hawelka. Goulash and traditional coffee are what the kitchen is known for, and since the 1980s the place has worked mainly as a night café, running to two in the morning. Poster-plastered walls, smoking still permitted, one step-limited entrance and no accessible toilet.
