Lisbon's cervejarias trading for half a century or more
Map of 5 locations in Lisbon, Portugal
A cervejaria is not a brewery and not quite a restaurant: it is a beer hall with a marble counter, a tank of draught running all day, and a kitchen that answers to shellfish and steak in roughly equal measure. These are the Lisbon houses that have been doing it since at least the 1950s, several of them in buildings that were a convent, a brewery floor or a cold meats shop first. Expect percebes by weight, prego do lombo, croquetes eaten standing up, and queues at the ones that never took bookings.
