Taberna Antonio Sánchez

Usually called the oldest tavern in Madrid, with 1787 the date on its own sign and 1839 the year one account gives for its founding by the picador Colita. It passed to the bullfighter Cara Ancha and then to Antonio Sánchez, who fought and painted, encouraged by Zuloaga. Its real claim is that almost nothing has been touched: the zinc counter, the bull's head on the wall, and callos, cocido and tapas underneath them.
