Lhardy

Open since 1839, the house that brought high French cooking to Madrid and kept the belle-époque fittings that came with it. The consommé, the kidneys in sherry and the cocido madrileño are the dishes its history is built on, served in a suite of salons of which the Japanese room is the best known. Galdós and his contemporaries were regulars, which is how it earned its reputation as the city's most literary dining room.
