Lake Nokomis
Two hundred and four acres, 33.1 feet at its deepest, formerly Lake Amelia. It has two public beaches, both monitored weekly through the summer for bacteria and both subject to blue-green algae advisories when conditions turn, which the city posts rather than leaving swimmers to guess. In January the lake becomes the venue for the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships, with crews cutting and clearing rinks on the ice when thickness allows.
