57th Street Beach

One of only two Park District beaches where surfing is permitted in season, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and never inside an active swim area: surfers check in with the lifeguards first. Two large pedestrian underpasses at 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive carry you under the traffic from Hyde Park and the Museum of Science and Industry. The shoreline runs long here, crossing from Burnham Park into Jackson Park.
