Café Sperl

Founded 1880 and listed on the Austrian register of historic places, with its Belle Époque furnishings largely as they were: parquet, Thonet chairs, marble tables and billiard tables still in use. Seven young Secessionists held their first meetings here before breaking away in 1897; archdukes, officers and Academy of Fine Arts students shared the room in between. The Sperl Torte and the pancakes are the house items, and the café closes on Sundays in July and August.
