Levada da Rocha Vermelha

PR28 opens with one of the longest tunnels on Madeira at 1.6 km, which means a headlamp and steady concentration before the route reaches the Rabaçal valley and its waterfalls. Beyond the tunnel the path beside the channel is wide but uneven, with big drop-offs and no railing or safety fence. The valley ridgelines are in view for most of the walk, and the surface is what catches people out rather than the gradient.
