St James's Park

The oldest of the Royal Parks, enclosed by Henry VIII in 1532 on the site of a medieval leper hospital and drained and landscaped under James I, making it the first properly landscaped royal ground. At 23 hectares it is small and almost entirely level, wrapped around a central lake whose pelicans descend from a pair given to Charles II in 1664. Operated by The Royal Parks, with a nature interpretation board on site.
