Richmond Park

955 hectares, around 2,500 acres, created by Charles I in the 1630s as a deer park and now a National Nature Reserve. Red and fallow deer still roam freely across grassland and ancient oaks, and the terrain rolls rather than sits flat: a survey pillar inside the park is set at 56 metres. Restoration work here has been funded by The Royal Parks charity with habitat resilience in mind.
