Pont Neuf

Despite the name, this is the oldest surviving bridge in Paris, begun in 1578 and inaugurated by Henri IV in 1607. It was built as a double crossing, a seven-arch section and a five-arch section on either side of the western tip of the Île de la Cité, and carried shops until the foundations were rebuilt under Napoleon III. The 381 stone mascarons of ancient divinities were restored during the 1994 to 2007 campaign that closed on the bridge's four hundredth anniversary.
