Mahon Pool

Cut into the rock in a cleft of the cliffs north of Maroubra Beach, built in 1932 by Randwick Council as an Unemployment Relief project. Its intertidal position means the Pacific swell runs straight through it at high tide, which is why it is worth checking conditions if the plan is to swim laps rather than get thrown around. Locals petitioned for repairs in 1988 and the National Trust classified the pool and added it to its heritage register in 1994. Free, with basic toilets and changing facilities.
