Uhuru Park

Nairobi's best-known park sits immediately west of the central business district and spent years closed while the Kenya Defence Forces rebuilt it, returning to Nairobi County control after the handover. The works added open-air libraries, shade structures and restaurant space alongside relaid lawns and walkways, and entry is not free: the county has said the upgraded standard comes with a charge. Political rallies, long the park's defining use, have been ruled out at the refurbished site by the Defence Cabinet Secretary. The public toilets on site are cashless.
