Karura Forest

At 1,063 hectares this is the largest of the three gazetted forests within Nairobi, ahead of Ngong and Oloolua, and it carries a network of nature trails, picnic sites, caves and waterfalls. It lies north of the centre, bordered by Muthaiga, Gigiri, Runda, Ridgeways, Mathare North and Peponi, with the western block known separately as Sigiria Forest. The boundary is actively enforced: in September the Kenya Forest Service took control of holes 2 to 9 of the neighbouring Muthaiga Golf Club course, saying the ground lies inside the forest.
