Nairobi Arboretum

Thirty hectares laid out in 1907 by E. Batiscombe as a trial ground for forestry species, now holding more than 350 kinds of tree and still working as a research site as much as a recreation ground. It sits near State House, close enough to the centre to be the walkable alternative to Karura, and is far smaller than the city's gazetted forests. The Kenya Forest Service runs it and drew public criticism when it raised the entry charge.
