Okmok, 2008
In the late morning of 12 July the Alaska Volcano Observatory received an unexpected call from the U.S. Coast Guard reporting an explosive eruption in the central Aleutians near the young caldera. Staff confirmed the report within minutes from a strong eruption signal on the Okmok seismic network and a large dark ash cloud visible in satellite imagery, and declared the volcano at aviation code red. The catalogue marks the explosivity index for this episode as uncertain.
