Lewotobi Laki-laki, 2023
A series of explosive eruptions at the volcano in eastern Flores ran from 23 December into 1 January, beginning with heavy ash clouds that led some residents to evacuate voluntarily, and the volcano threw pyroclastic bombs and ash towards nearby villages. After the 23 December eruption a crack 160 metres long was seen on the northwest of the peak, emitting thick white smoke to a height of about 300 metres, and PVMBG raised the alert to Level III from 1 January 2024. PVMBG later reported high-level activity during 5 to 12 November with tall ash plumes, explosions, pyroclastic flows and a lava flow affecting residents, infrastructure and transport.
