Café Gerstner

The Gerstner name goes back to a pastry shop opened in central Vienna in the 1840s, and the confectionery side has never stopped being the point: this is a coffeehouse run by bakers rather than the reverse. It settled early into the role of a meeting place for Viennese and visitors alike, and the cake counter still sets the terms of a visit.
