Praia Vermelha

Under 245 metres long, below Morro da Urca and Sugarloaf. It's named for thick reddish sand found on no other beach in the city. The headland usually shelters it from the South Atlantic swell, so the water is calm and popular with swimmers. The cable car station behind it has run to Morro da Urca since 1912.
