Arpoador

An 800-metre strip of sand where the eastern end of Ipanema meets the rocky point, backed by a small park. The sea here is always rougher than on its neighbours and is floodlit at night. That makes it the south zone's surf beach, with surfers out at dawn. At dusk, crowds gather on the rock to watch the sun set behind Dois Irmãos.
