Galerie Vivienne

Construction began in 1823 and the gallery opened in 1826 under a steel-and-glass roof that widens into a glazed rotunda halfway along. The decor is Neo-Classical in the Pompeian manner, with mosaic floors and relief panels that were restored along with the glazing rather than replaced. Bookshops, a wine merchant, jewellers and fabric sellers occupy the arcades, several of them long-established tenants.
