Passage du Caire

Begun in 1798, which makes it the second oldest in Paris and, at around 550 feet, the longest. The Egyptian revival scheme at the Place du Caire entrance came out of the fashion that followed Bonaparte's campaign: hieroglyph panels and faux columns above the doorway, glass roof over the corridors behind. It serves the Sentier rag trade rather than tourists, and stretches of it are empty.
