Guildhall Library

A free public reference library in the Square Mile, open weekdays and open to anyone, with no ticket or registration on the door. Reference status means the books stay in the building, which is exactly why the room stays quiet: it is set up for reading and note-taking at a desk rather than for borrowing and leaving. The specialism is the history of London, but nobody asks what you are working on.
