Typhoon Nuri (2014)

Very favourable conditions, in particular synoptic scale outflow, drove rapid deepening to a peak on 2 November, with a round eye set in a symmetric central dense overcast. The JMA placed the peak about 520 km southwest of Okinotorishima, with ten-minute sustained winds of 205 km/h and a central pressure of 910 hPa. Vertical wind shear from the mid-latitude westerlies stripped the eye away on 5 November and the deep convection deteriorated, and forecasters expected the remains to be picked up by a trough and to bring hurricane-like conditions to the Bering Strait as an extratropical system.
