Typhoon Soudelor (2015)
The storm made landfall on Saipan, causing extensive damage, then struck Hualien in Taiwan late on 7 August and emerged over the Taiwan Strait early the next day. Accounts of the toll differ: one gives 40 confirmed fatalities across the Northern Mariana Islands, Taiwan and eastern China, while another reports 45 killed in eastern China alone after parts of the country were hit by the heaviest rains in a century.
