Tolbachik, 1975-1976
The Large Tolbachik fissure eruption ran in Kamchatka from 6 July 1975 to 10 December 1976, and its onset was correctly predicted beforehand. It built monogenetic scoria cones close to 300 m high along with lava tubes and basalt sheets up to 80 m thick covering more than 40 square kilometres. The summit caldera of Plosky Tolbachik subsided by more than 400 m, leaving an inner crater 350 to 400 m across.
