Fuego, 1974
Activity began at 4:00 a.m. on 10 October with small ash eruptions from the summit crater of the Guatemalan volcano. Published measurements afterwards recorded a substantial increase in stratospheric particulate matter across the northern hemisphere, and probably the southern hemisphere as well. A photograph of the 14 October column was taken from the Finca Capetillo, 8 km east-northeast of the summit.
