Fort Point

The brick fort under the south anchorage of the Golden Gate Bridge, begun in 1853 to guard the strait against sea attack, still standing because the bridge was engineered with a steel arch over it rather than through it. The granite sea wall on Marine Drive is where Madeleine goes into the water and Scottie pulls her out. The fort is open for tours and the same view can be had from the pier by the Warming Hut, about a kilometre short of it.
