Chelsea Bridge
A self-anchored suspension bridge opened on 6 May 1937, replacing the Victoria Bridge begun in 1851 and completed in 1858, which was renamed Chelsea Bridge. The earlier bridge was built after the 1842 Commission of Woods, Forests, and Land Revenues recommended embanking Chelsea and adding a crossing downstream of Battersea Bridge. The same recommendation proposed demolishing Battersea Bridge, which was never carried out.
