Waterloo Bridge
The present bridge opened in 1945 and now carries more than 25,000 vehicles a day between the South Bank and the Strand. A council funding document obtained by Bloomberg in September 2026 records an inspection that found water damage and cracks measuring up to 2mm, with Westminster City Council seeking £6 million for the repairs. If the work is not completed by the end of the 2029-30 financial year, the bridge could face weight restrictions or closure.
