JK Memorial

Built in 1980 for Juscelino Kubitschek, the president who commissioned Brasília and governed from 1956 to 1961, and who is buried inside it. The museum holds his papers and personal effects beneath a curved scythe-shaped tower carrying his statue. Niemeyer designed it during the years he was working largely outside Brazil, which makes it the only major commission of that period built in the city he had planned.
