The Briton's Protection
First recorded under this name in 1820, with the interior dating from a remodelling of about 1930. Historic England singles out the long front corridor and the ornate lincrusta ceiling, along with glazed sashes that could once be raised to serve drinkers standing in the passage; service to the back rooms now comes through a hatch behind the bar. CAMRA lists it among the central Manchester heritage pubs and has flagged it as under threat.
