Konkai-Komyoji Temple

Founded in 1175 and known locally as Kurodani, this Jōdo-sect head temple sits on a hill above the city, which is why its night opening reads as lights below as well as above. The set piece is Shiun no Niwa, where the illuminated maples come back inverted off the still pond. Areas normally closed to the public are opened for the run, and the last admission is half an hour before the gate shuts.
