Kernkraftwerk Unterweser
The 1410 MW second-generation KWU reactor came off the grid on 18 March 2011 under the nuclear moratorium and was permanently shut that August, one of the seven oldest plants closed after the post-Fukushima safety review. The decommissioning licence followed in February 2018 and dismantling is now the furthest advanced of PreussenElektra's three Lower Saxony sites, with the reactor internals cut up in place and some 300 tonnes of steel removed; completion is planned for 2031. Spent fuel stays on site in the BGZ interim store, and the plant grounds are fenced with no public access.
