St Martin within Ludgate
One of Wren's later rebuildings, carried out between 1677 and 1684, with a slender lead spire whose height and profile were worked out in relation to the dome rising behind it. The view east from Ludgate Circus, spire against dome, is the composition the design was made for. The building is stone with a grey leaded roof and remains a working church on Ludgate Hill.
