Christ Church Greyfriars
The site began as the conventual church of a Franciscan friary in the thirteenth century and became a parish church after the Dissolution; Wren rebuilt it between 1677 and 1691, facing St Paul's across Newgate Street. Bombing in the Second World War left only the tower, and the decision was taken not to rebuild. The ruined body is now a public garden kept by the City of London Corporation, while the tower itself is a private residence and not open.
