St Mary Abchurch
Rebuilt by Wren between 1681 and 1686 in red brick with stone dressings, unusual among the City churches, under a tower 51 feet high with a leaded spire. A larger building on the model of St Stephen Walbrook was intended, but for reasons that are not recorded it was built to a smaller plan. The churchwardens had the fittings taken out and stored for the duration of the Second World War, and the church was listed Grade I on 4 January 1950.
