La Biela

The corner was the Vasco Michelena grocery store until 1942, and the motor-racing crowd that followed gave the café its name and its regulars: Froilán González, Charly Menditeguy, Gastón Perkins. Borges, Sábato, Bioy Casares and Silvina Ocampo used the same room. Regional cheese and cold-meat plates are the standing order, taken either inside or on the terrace under the trees facing the Iglesia del Pilar.
