Café Tortoni

Opened in 1858 and modelled on a Paris café, with a stained-glass ceiling attributed to Tiffany and walls of portraits and plaques marking former regulars including Borges and Federico García Lorca. The Legislature declared it a Historic Place of the City in 1998, and in 2017 it was voted the city's best notable café. Wifi and vegetarian dishes arrived late, a concession its manager describes as adapting without losing the café's identity.
