2017 Karrat Fjord landslide and tsunami
On the evening of 17 June 2017 a landslide mobilising 35 to 58 million cubic metres of material entered Karrat Isfjord on the west coast of Greenland. The slide was large enough to generate a seismic signal suggestive of a magnitude 4.1 earthquake, which confounded initial efforts to identify its cause, according to a seismologist at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. The wave, with a run-up of about 90 m, destroyed the settlement of Nuugaatsiaq.
