2000 Paatuut landslide
A large landslide came down at Paatuut, facing the Vaigat Strait on the west coast of Greenland, on 21 November 2000. Roughly 30 million cubic metres of material, about 87 million tons, entered the sea and raised a wave with a run-up of 50 m close to the slide and 28 m at Qullissat, an abandoned mining town across the 20 km wide strait. Calculated travel times matched reports from Saqqaq, the closest populated village 40 km away, where refracted energy destroyed a number of boats.
