2015 Taan Fjord landslide and tsunami
On 17 October 2015 a rain-soaked mountainside slid into Taan Fiord, an arm of Icy Bay in southeast Alaska, and the displaced water ran more than 500 feet up the opposite slope. USGS scientists afterwards examined the tsunami deposits and the trees knocked over at the mouth of the fjord.
