1957 Andreanof Islands earthquake
The rupture occurred at 04:22 local time on 9 March south of the Andreanof Islands group, part of the Aleutian Islands arc, and set off a Pacific-wide wave. Damage in the Hawaiian Islands came to roughly $5 million in 1957 dollars, and no lives were lost there. A US newspaper of the day carried the front-page headline "HAWAII WASHED BY TIDAL WAVE". The wave did less damage than the one generated in the same general area in 1946.
