Marché Beauvau

The market itself was created in 1779 by Samson-Nicolas Lenoir; the hall was rebuilt in 1811 and enlarged in 1843, when the city handed the work to its own architect Marc-Gabriel Jolivet. It occupies the western half of the place d'Aligre, with the open-air Aligre market running alongside it, so the same errand can be done twice at two price levels. Food is the whole business here, and everything shuts for the afternoon before reopening at four.
