Palazzo Reale

Stefano Balbi, a financier, presented the project on 4 February 1643, and the Balbi family built the palace between 1643 and 1650. The Durazzo family enlarged it between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It became the Royal Palace in 1824, when the House of Savoy bought it. The state-run museum now shows more than a hundred paintings in its reception rooms, among them works by Van Dyck, Tintoretto, Guercino and Luca Giordano.
